be good or be gone

it's sunday. 7pm. i have yet to begin studying for my mid-term tomorrow. how can i be expected to study when school of rock is on TBS?

whenever i come home, i can generally hear whatever my neighbor across the hall is listening to or watching. earlier today, i heard a bathtub filling while some girly pop-country music was blasting. a lot of times it sounds like sportscenter. occasionally i hear wheel of fortune. the reason i spend so much time trying to hear what goes on in apartment 7 is because i never see my neighbor. i saw him once in his car, i think. today, while walking up the stairs with groceries in tow, i overheard something that sounded like good music. some drums, guitar, some harmonized vocals. as i slowly unlocked my door, i realized that the song that i thought sounded "cool" went a little something like "fiiive. fiiive dollar. fiive dollar foot loooong."  and what do you know, i had a five dollar footlong in my hand! i feel like i should write a letter to subway about how much my diet was influenced by this song. i didn't even like subway before they made that song. speaking of subs, on the new domino's commercials that advertise their new subs, the dude who works at "submart" looks exactly like paul banks of interpol.

my beloved spartans beat the wolverines yesterday for the first time in seven years. i watched the game with my fellow spartans (susan & co.) at buffalo wild wings. we attempted to play the tv quiz as we watched the game but by the fourth quarter, the stress was too great. we celebrated by attending a "pto party," at the home of a teacher? i think? it. was WILD. the decorations were insane. animatronic texas chainsaw dude guarding the bathroom (i held it as long as i could), a carved coffin shaped ice luge, and the exact beer bong depicted above. 'twas a blast. i was super lazy and went as an MSU football player in a jersey and sweatpants. i can only hope that when i have the expendable income to do such, i will be able to buy things like animatronic halloween statues and custom coffin shaped ice luges.

on friday night, betsy and i joined bob-squared for a night downtown. i never go downtown. the closest i get to downtown anymore is the magic stick. whoa! it's nice! there's a crepe stand! and a coffee shop! and the detroit beer company! we went for a something called an "access detroit block party" that sought to celebrate the opening of the new westin book-cadillac hotel (which is pretty slick). unfortunately, a band called the "killer flamingos" were playing really terrible covers in the rain outside and the beer was $7. thanks, but no thanks. instead, we ventured back to the detroit beer company and drank delicious brews and played jukebox hero. 10cc's "i'm not in love" has officially been added to our jukebox hero arsenal. they had the same internet jukebox that we regularly abused at GOC's in the summer of '07. sure, it makes the game almost too easy when you can select just about any song ever. we also scared the post-opera crowd with the white stripes' "conquest." i had to drive bob's spaceship/car home and i have yet to understand why a steering wheel needs to be heated. it made me feel like we are one step closer to a car that has true cruise control. "car, drive me home!" i can't wait.

i finally uploaded all my october photos! see them on my FLICKR! here are some of my favorites.
